The Kitchen Towel Glove idea was originally created for an exhibition on request by the Belgian magazine Feeling Wonen in 2004.
Feeling Wonen asked a handful of promising Belgian Designers to get creative using the traditional kitchen towel (or its pattern). With PinkOliv, we decided to use the square kitchen towel as a whole. We came up with 2 ideas: this kitchen towel glove and a converted origami bread basket made from a kitchen towel.
Is this idea still relevant?
In some cultures towels are not used to dry the dishes. Even in Flanders kitchen towels are getting less used due to the use of dishwashers which deliver nearly dry dishes after washing. Nevertheless: I see people struggle with towels wherever I go, whenever they use them …
So for those of you out there who still put up a daily fight with the dishes and with the kitchen towel while drying the dishes, this tweak might come in handy. I have dropped more towels on the ground than I would like to. That’s why I am glad I ditched up this idea that makes doing the dishes (more) fun.
From now on, I wear my kitchen towel is like a glove.
